| If there's any single design tip that works as a foundation for all the other design tips, I think it's "Know Yourself."
Spend an afternoon going through home design magazines looking for you. They don't even need to be the latest magazines. Go ahead and pull together magazines from friends recycling, so you have lot's of ideas to choose from. Now, go through them page by page, ripping out the pictures that instantly appeal to you on some level.
Toss the pages in a folder and when you have a couple dozen, go through them and see what these pictures have in common. Is it vibrant color or muted tones? Historically formal or loosely upholstered informality that appeals to you?
Is there a lot of wood and warmth in the room or the crisp coolness of chrome? Oriental rugs or sisal carpet? How are the accessories (if there are any) displayed?
Bottom line, just study yourself and your reactions to those rooms. It's a study that should end up telling you quite a bit about yourself and how you want to be perceived in the world.
Have fun! |
